Major new development planned for Kirkcaldy east

10 June 2010

A PROPERTY developer has submitted a planning application to expand the east side of Kirkcaldy, creating a new community of 1000 homes, a primary school, shops and leisure facilities.

The Scottish company Murray Estates said its plans would create " a seamless extension and expansion" of the town towards the east, and if granted, would be built in phases, starting as early as next year.

The development site at Kingslaw is known as Kingdom Park, and extends to 131 acres.

Murray Estates' plans have been the subject of in-depth masterplanning, taking in the views of local people at a series of public consultations two years ago, as well as those of Fife Council and other organisations.

The plans include:

•Around 1000 new homes, with a range of housing types, including affordable homes

•A new neighbourhood centre, including convenience shopping

•A wide range of community facilities, including a new primary school in close proximity to Randolph Road

•A mixed-use neighbourhood including commercial leisure uses, retail units and a supermarket

The developer said the expansion would help bring further investment and job opportunities to the town, and bring improvements to road infrastructure, upgraded bus routes, pedestrian access and encourage the development of the proposed new Kirkcaldy East high school to replace Viewforth, and a new railway station.

Jestyn Davies, Managing Director of Murray Estates said: ''We are delighted to have submitted the planning application for Kingdom Park.

"Having consulted with the local community, I fully believe that the Kingdom Park application, while creating employment opportunities, will also deliver a wide range of residential, retail, community and education facilities that will benefit and provide an opportunity for existing and new communities in the long term.''

''Although an application has now been submitted, we will continue to work closely with the local community to ensure that the aspirations of all those with a key interest in Kirkcaldy are brought to fruition via this development.''

Kirkcaldy MSP Marilyn Livingstone welcomed progress in plans to expand in the east of the town.

She said: "I am glad there has been significant consultation with local people, and the company plans to continue to listen to the views of those living in the town.

"The provision of new housing will also encourage investment in transport links in the area, such as improvements to the Redhouse Roundabout, and move this and the new high school further up the agenda."

The plans will go before Fife Council members for their consideration
