Although it was a lovely day you can see water in this one on the path, there is a burst pipe underneath, a bit smelly sometimes, but there is word out that the Glen is getting a facelift, there are no animals or birds there any more due to the European laws, but we did see a few wild ducks and a couple of squirels.

Lovely pictures Betty. You were lucky you managed to get some sunshine - I was out and about on Saturday - nasty black clouds and I just got home before a heavy hail shower. It is a long time since I visited Letham Glen and perhaps it is overdue for me to pay a visit later this year.

Don't you mean tree-rats? The shortage of animals and birds is probably due to the fact that these vermin feast on eggs, young birds and animals. People judge animals by how cute they look, and not by the amount of harm they do to the ecosystem. In the natural state, all species would exist in an equilibrium, but humans provide havens safe from higher predators where vermin populations can explode, especially when the public provide free food handouts. Would the public feel the same about rats, slugs and wasps?

"Got any spare jam mum? I'm just down to the garden to feed the wasps"

"Where's that lettuce? The slugs are going hungry"

Live and let live.

Precicely. That is exactly my point. It is human activity and deliberate interference that has upset the balance.

BTW It was humans that introduced the grey squirrel to the UK in the first place and therefore there is a strong case for their total eradication. Actually though, evolution is an ongoing process (and man is a part of that) so it is naive to think we can preserve forever a snapshot of an ecosystem at a particular point in time. We should just strive to minimise our impact.

Great pics Betty, thanks for letting us see them. Your granddaughters must have enjoyed the day out in the sunshine. I enjoy Lethem Glen too, but it's a while since I was there.
Summer is almost here though, so we may get back there soon. When we see our grandchildren enjoying simple pleasures like that, we can see it anew again through their eyes, and all the cynicsm in the world can't take away that enjoyment.
